How to Job Search During the Holiday Season

We’re in the midst of the holiday season and you might think that means it’s not a great time to search for a job, but this time of year actually offers many reasons you should be applying. So while you may think looking for a job in December seems like an impossible goal, that’s far from the truth.

Less Job Search Competition

Since fewer people will be job searching during December, you’ll have to “compete” with for open positions. Fewer people applying also means it will be easier for you to “stand out from the crowd.” Hiring managers with open positions will have less candidates to pull from, hence increasing your chances of landing an interview.

Don’t think that this means you can slack off or be “sloppy” while applying for jobs. You should still make sure you’re filling out applications accurately, doing mock-interviews with a friend or mentor, and proof-reading your resume or work history to ensure it is mistake-free. Just because there might be less competition in December, doesn’t give you an excuse to put anything but your best effort forward in your job search.

Work Closely with a Recruiter

Looking back to there being less competition during December, you’ll be able to work more closely with a recruiter. Since there are fewer people coming into staffing or recruitment offices taking up time with the recruiters, you’ll be able to spend more time personalizing your job search with a recruiter.

With more time in their day, a recruiter will be able to work with you more closely to assist your job search. When you work with a recruiter, like one at EG Workforce Solutions, you’ll be working with someone who values your job search and tailors your skills and experience to the ideal position that’s a fit for you.

Prepare for Your 2020 Job Search

If your holiday season seems just too busy for you to dedicate to actively job searching, use your downtime to start laying the ground-work for a fruitful 2020 job search. Use this slower time to update your resume or work history, polish your LinkedIn profile, research companies you’d be interested in working for, do mock-interviews as practice, and spend time networking.

By taking the time to update your job search materials this holiday season, you’ll be better prepared, and two-steps ahead of the competition come 2020.
